Date: Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 7 pm – 9 pm Central

About the workshop:

This 2-hour class is for anyone interested in learning some of the history of the fan, the language of the fan, and how to use it in dance (movements to music will be taught) or as part of daily living. It will be taught from a seated position, and modifications will be included for anyone who might be challenged by the hand movements. Anyone who is an absolute beginner can participate; even those with some experience are welcome to participate since they, too, might learn something new.

Supplies: Students will need a fan, preferably no longer than a 13 inch radius or 26 inch diameter; shorter fans are also fine. Paper fans are too flimsy. Amazon has some good ones here, here, and here. You can also use a “clack fan” or or “popper.” Some examples are here, here, and here.

Spanish Fan Dance instructor Anani I'naru

About the instructor:

Anani I’naru is an award-winning Spanish Fusion Dancer who pays homage to her Puerto Rican heritage. She has taught belly dance, dancing with fans, skirt dancing, choreography, and castanets. After a temporary hiatus, she returned as one who dances differently; performing and teaching others from a seated position. Her love for dancing and teaching is the driving force that compels her to share her passion with others. She also enjoys learning from her students and looks forward to fun interactions in her classes. It is her wish to help others realize that, yes they can, and to have fun, too.
